I was soberly struck at how much I identified with a quote I read by Tchaikovsky this morning, "Regretting the past and hoping for the future without ever being satisfied with the present-this is how my life is spent." To live with a continually live with a guilty conscience over a past that has already been forgiven and to have such an insatiable thirst for what is coming in the future so that it robs us of the treasures of the present. Do we not long to live in victory?! We attended an Anglican Church yesterday. I loved the liturgy... Regretting the past- Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, We confess that we have sinned, in thought, word, and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been. hoping for the future without ever being satisfied with the present- Help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, That we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. Amen." (Anglican Confession) John Piper~ “The Son is magnified when we are satisfied in Him.” Let us strive, therefore, to make much of our God by trusting our past to Him, hoping assuredly for our salvation that is to come, which enables us to be ever satisfied with the present. |
